Formed during a New Year’s Eve party in 1984 when now well-known local musicians Duncan Jones and Paul Armfield met, Bobby I Can Fly went on to become one of the Island’s most popular bands of the 1980’s playing a raw, brass driven mix of faux jazz, new wave and classic pop.
Focused around Duncan’s superb songs and voice their enthusiasm infected a whole generation of Island youth for the three brief years they were together. After splitting and going their separate ways the group reformed for what was to be a one off charity gig at the Quay Arts Centre in April 2012, having sold this show out within only a couple of days and found that they enjoyed the experience so much they have since gone on to play a number of other times most notably at both the Isle of Wight & Rhythmtree Festivals.
The band comprises:
Duncan Jones – Vocals, guitar
Paul Armfield – Bass, backing vocals
Mark Wozencroft – Drums
David Baker – Percussion and backing vocals
Carl Grant – Trumpet
Dave Pontin – Saxophone (Dave joined in 2012 as original sax player Jamie Shirlaw now lives in France)
